    Through our Be Well Do Well Mini-Grants, we invest in the creative ideas of residents and organizations to share power and create impact. We invite Palm Beach County to submit their ideas with focus on residents most in need to build more equitable and inclusive behavioral health support, promote workforce wellness, and honor resiliency and community healing.

    Meet Our 2022 Awardees

    Be Well Do Well Mini-Grants awardees are residents of all ages, community groups, religious organizations, for profit businesses, schools and educational facilities, and local municipalities. These innovative individuals received grant awards up to $5,000 for inventive ideas to improve behavioral health and wellness for Palm Beach County neighbors most in need.  

    Cultural Competence to respond to the unique needs of specific populations

    Self-Care Retreat Experience for Self-Professed Haitian Women awarded to Carine Emile Joseph business owner in West Palm Beach. A program to honor the care Haitian women give to others with their own self-care day experience.

    Promotores de Salud Children’s Mental Health Campaign awarded to El Sol of Jupiter, FL, in partnership with the Rural Women Health Project. A mental health campaign for children living in Jupiter, FL, who have Hispanic/Latino immigrant parent/s.

    TRUE Brotherhood Project awarded to Jashua Sa-Ra, West Palm Beach resident. A rites of passage program for boys ages 15-19, focused on brotherhood, self-determination, community, accountability, integrity, and responsible success.

    Ability Garden awarded to JARC of Boca Raton, FL. Funding will expand the organization’s Vocational Horticultural Therapy program to include more social-wellness programs in the garden for adults with autism and related disabilities.

    An Online Chair Yoga Program for Improving Brain Health for Older Adults in a Rural Underserved Community awarded to Bettye Lawson of Glades Faith Health Educators. African American, Latino, and Afro-Caribbean senior residents with mobility challenges in the Glades will participate in an online chair yoga class, supported Glades Central Community High School students and Florida Atlantic University nurses.

    Focus on outreach and awareness

    Second Job Family Affair awarded to William Freeman, founder of People of Purpose in The Glades. Direct services, including housing, education, and employment offered to returning citizens and their families in the underserved communities of Belle Glade, Pahokee, and South Bay.

    You Are Flawless Wellness Workshops awarded to Janine Francolini, Flawless Foundation. Workshops teaching well-being and self-care; kits and self-care items delivered to veterans and neighbors who are unhoused and people who work on the streets.

    Teamwork 4 Wellness awarded to Deborah Feinsinger, teacher at Palm Beach Gardens Community High School. Wellness workshops and interactive learning for staff, students, and families of Palm Beach Gardens Community High School.

    New Song Mental Health & The Church Conference awarded to Debbie Manigat of New Song Church. Free conference connecting Palm Beach County families, therapists, and faith leaders.

    BeWellPBC Podcast Awardees

    SPARC Up by Angel Wilson on educating the public about autism awareness/acceptance.

    She Is Me I am Her by Tracey Graham to nurture the strengths of girls.

    Unity3 Palm Beach by Katrina Blackmon real conversations geared toward the everyday behavioral/mental health struggles of African American Men and Women, all people of color.

    The Brie Hive by Brieana Salter will provide mental health resources, financial, and emotional support to individuals and families that are affected by Lupus and other chronic illnesses.

    Helping the Helpers: Self-Care for the Health Professional by the T. Leroy Jefferson Medical Society will offer behavioral health and wellness resources for healthcare professionals.

    Mini-Grant Information

    Be Well Do Well Mini-Grants are unique in that funding is not limited to only nonprofit organizations as is usually the case with grant awards. Residents of all ages, community groups, religious organizations, for profit businesses, schools and educational facilities, and local municipalities are eligible for our mini-grants. The mini-grant program provides grant awards of up to $5,000 for innovative ideas to improve behavioral health and wellness for Palm Beach County neighbors most in need. BeWellPBC invites Palm Beach County residents, groups, or organizations who have an innovative idea to apply.

    Podcast Information

    BeWellPBC is offering a second opportunity to people who would like to make a difference by communicating their knowledge, insights, and/or experiences through a 4-episode podcast series about behavioral health and wellness. The grant will provide for the cost of production and technical assistance with Thinking Out Loud, Inc. to create a professional podcast series, with applicants providing the topics, content, hosts, and guests. Each awardee will be awarded up to $500.00 for additional costs related to the release of their very own 4-episode podcast series.

    How do I apply?

    Fill out the online application on this page above and submit completed application through the website. No paper copies accepted.

    Do I have to attend a Q&A Session?

    Yes, applicants must attend a Q&A Session to be considered.

    Who is eligible to apply?

    Residents, Groups, or Organizations in Palm Beach County only.

    What can I apply for?

    Mini-grants up to $5,000 or a podcast series.

    Are applications available in multiple languages?

    Yes, in Haitian-Creole, Spanish and English.

    Can I use grant funds outside of Palm Beach County?

    All funding must be used in Palm Beach County, for Palm Beach County.

    What are the priority areas for the grant?

    Supporting Community Healing & Resiliency, Building Community Support, and Promoting Workforce Wellness.

    Are fundraising events or entry fee events allowed to apply?

    Programs or events must be free of charge for residents to participate and should not be a fundraising activity.

    May I submit more than one project?

    Yes, noting only one award will be granted per participant.

    Is there a deadline to utilize awarded funding?

    Funding should be used within one year of the grant award.

    Tech Savvy Wellness Solutions for Seniors

    The goal of the program is to implement a practical model that addresses isolation and loneliness among senior residents. This grant will provide assistive technology-based interventions and training to seniors to improve communication and social connections with their families and the community.

    I See You

    *In Memoriam, Carlos Edwards: January 15, 1982 – March 2, 2024.* The project will provide education on trauma and how it affects the lives of African Americans. This project will serve as a way to provide a safe outlet where men can come together and feel safe sharing with each other and learning new ways to deal with emotion, trauma and other internal issues that are taboo to the African American community.

    Sharing Survival Stories Saturday

    “Sharing Survival Stories Saturday” will target families living in homelessness. There are three components to the program: 1) prevention/diversion 2) shelter and 3) stabilization. Eight times within twelve months, Family Promise will host a speaker, a single mother who has survived the challenges of being homeless. The outcome will be that mothers in the program will gain strength and motivation.

    In The Garden with Tabernacle

    The garden is a raised bed and container community garden organized, planted, and harvested by the community and distributed freely to the homeless and residents living in the food desert which encompasses the historical Northwest Neighborhood. The garden produces fruits, vegetables, herbs, and flowers for the benefit of residents in order to provide food security, nutrition education, and mental health respite.

    “Sister to Sister” Project

    The project advances the behavioral health and wellness of 50 black and brown women who are first-time college students. Motivational speakers engage students in a series of health education topics through collaborative activities, video tutorials, and mental health counseling. Life skills sessions are conducted by the Student Counseling Center and Academic/Student Services Advisors, empowering participants and impacting the community.

    Celebrating Diversity

    Palm Beach County youth ( ages18-25), impacted by homelessness, will come together to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion through artistic expression. This project will nurture wellness via youth showcasing, facilitating, and promoting diversity aimed to unite, bring awareness, and educate the community. Youth will work on projects throughout the year leading to a month-long celebration in June 2021 (Pride month, Juneteenth celebration, and a multicultural performance and art showcase).

    Obstacle Course That Leads to Serenity

    School staff and students will design and create an obstacle course leading to a serenity garden to promote healthy habits. Everyone will track his/her fitness progress at home/school and earn participation in quarterly competitions. This project will provide opportunities for collaboration, problem-solving, creativity, and reflection with the ambition to improve attendance, perseverance, self-esteem, physical fitness, and mental health while strengthening the school community.

    Prepare Our Youth for Tomorrow

    A project designed to empower and instill confidence in teens and youth of color who come from under-served, low socioeconomic backgrounds and zip codes. The curriculum for this program will center around preparing our youth to thrive as they encounter adult responsibilities and will include resume writing, interview skills and preparation, leadership skill development, financial literacy, and internship/apprenticeship opportunities.

    Healing the Healers

    When the Center for Child Counseling (CFCC) first envisioned their “Healing the Healers” workshop to support front-line mental health and medical workers in June 2020, little did they know how significant their training would become for a post COVID-19 world.

    “Express Yourself” Fashion Art Ball

    As Deon C. Jefferson thought about the purpose of BeWellPBC’s Be Well Do Well mini-grants to promote behavioral health and wellness, inspiration struck. That’s not surprising given the talents of this true Renaissance man who is an artist, journalist, singer, and designer.

    Self-Compassion Matters

    Imagine a day-long retreat learning resilience and mindfulness techniques surrounded by gentle, majestic horses and grassy pastures. If it lowers your heart rate a bit just by thinking about it, you understand the premise of “Self-Compassion Matters,” a program developed by Dovecot Farm’s co-founder and chief compassion officer, Sarah Palmer.

    It Starts with Me

    Women Helping Women

    A program engaging 25 under-served Hispanic/Latina women to help each other overcome stress, anxiety and depression. Activities include: Zumba, Yoga, and cooking; group sessions to build peer support; and connections to treatment and resources. The project will occur virtually and in-person from 9/7/2020 to 6/4/2021 in southwestern Palm Beach County.
